Matt Key

Matt joined Dugger & Associates as an associate attorney in 2010 after serving as a law clerk with the firm beginning in 2008. Matt works on commercial and energy litigation as well as international business ventures and contract negotiation.  Career highlights to date include:

 

Transactional

 

  • Joint venture formation between U.S./European companies and local companies in energy markets.

 

  • Contract negotiation and legal analysis in support of a large offshore fiber-optics cable network offshore Angola.

 

  • Representation of seller in divestment of a nine-figure interest in a U.S. LNG terminal facility on behalf of an international oil company.

 

  • Negotiation and drafting of major service agreements on behalf of Angolan clients with international drilling companies.

 

  • U.S. support for international construction projects, including contract negotiation and securing visas for foreign workers to join project development in the U.S.

 

  • Negotiation of contract terms with oil and gas operators on behalf of mid-sized U.S.-based engineering and service contractors.

 

Litigation

 

  • Defense of multi-million dollar breach of contract lawsuit brought by oil and gas contractor against Sonangol U.S.A. Company.

 

  • Defense of federal maritime garnishment proceedings on behalf of Sonangol group of companies related to multi-million dollar ship charter dispute.

 

  • Representation of Sonangol group of companies in 28 U.S.C. § 1782 discovery proceeding brought in U.S. federal courts related to multi-million dollar claim in the High Courts of England. 

 

  • Recovery of high-six-figure settlement acting as lead counsel in suit representing vehicle leasing company against rental-car company.

About Matt

 

Matt graduated from South Texas College of Law cum laude and served as a member on the South Texas Law Review. Prior to law school Matt attended the University of Texas at Austin and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He lives in Houston’s Energy Corridor with his wife Priscilla. They enjoy traveling, cooking and taking up new projects.
